JAMS festival (Jamaica Arts Music Summer Festival) August 4th, 2012

From Professor Uttara Coorlawala:

Please do join our class On Tuesday March 10, 10.30-12 at Lehman 302,
when Abha Roy Bhatnagar will be presenting on Kathak dance.

Abha has a unique background, in that she has danced in temple ceremonies in Udaipur, where she grew up in close proximity with source performers and teachers of the jaipur style. She then went on to train in Delhi with historic figures as Durga Lal, and the internationally exponent of the Lucknow style of Kathak, and other renowned teachers so she combines in her training the sacred and the secular narratives of this dance form. Secure in her classical technique, she is credited with experimenting in aqua dance in a swimming pool in the Kathak style.

Of her performances it has been said:

Abha B. Roy has blazed a trail of her own in the sphere of kathak, but by the sheer virtue of a being superb exponent and with personality, devotion and discipline, she is a classical performer in a style of her
own and evokes wonder and delight in the viewers, while she performs and portrays a character with her inner feelings and happiness.
